Newmans of Dorking, Epson, Kingston & Richmond

Hello

I came across this site after finding the details at the Society of Genealogists.

I have been researching this branch for a number of years and had got back to Robert Newman who was buried at Dorking in 1646. I descend through his son Robert who married Rose Alyard, then their son Samuel (1) who married Dorothy Wheeler in 1681, then their son Samuel (2) Newman who married Ann Kelle in 1720, and their son Samuel (3) who married Mary Parker. Their daughter Sarah Newman married John Tasker in 1774.

I have had a quick look at the site but have yet to digest everything fully. I note that I have Dorothy Wheeler's mother Dorothy marrying Abraham Wood in 1667 in Ashtead which I understand you may be looking for.

Best wishes
Penny

Kingston Newmans come online !

Postby Seraphim Newman-Norton » Thu Dec 31, 2009 8:49 am

It is a great pleasure to welcome Penny to our family history site and really quite an exciting development. Until now all the Newman descendants on this site derive from Samuel & Dorothy Newman's son, III/1. John Newman, blacksmith of Epsom (died 1741), whereas Penny's descent is from his younger brother, IV. Samuel Newman of Kingston-upon-Thames (died 1741).

Our knowledge of the Kingston-upon-Thames branch is very sketchy and makes up little more than one page in narrative (pp. 59-60) in the family history, so Penny's information is not only significant but will provide us with further threads for pursuit !

One of the purposes of this website was to act as a net to draw in other researchers, both to assist them and to expand our own knowledge. I cannot think of a better start to 2010 and I look forward to learning more from Penny about her discoveries and in so doing wish all my kinsman a healthy and happy New Year !
